Oversized Product

Products exceeding standard tabletop dimensions that require specialized studio space, reinforced equipment, and custom lighting setups.

An oversized product refers to any merchandise that exceeds the standard dimensions of a typical tabletop photography setup (usually anything larger than 60-100cm in any dimension). These items—ranging from mid-sized furniture to heavy industrial equipment—require specialized studio environments, reinforced flooring, and expansive lighting arrays to ensure professional visual representation.

At JU Productions, oversized products are integrated into our high-end workflows, including Catalog Photography and Creative Photography. Because of their scale, these items often demand our Scheduled Lookbook® or Mini-campaign services to capture the necessary detail and lifestyle context. Leveraging our global intake model, brands can ship large-scale inventory to our specialized hubs in Singapore, the United States, and China, where our studios are purpose-built to handle the logistics of heavy and bulky items.

Why It Matters

Oversized products present unique logistical and technical challenges. For e-commerce brands, accurate representation is critical; if a customer misjudges the size of a sofa or a piece of fitness equipment, it leads to high-cost returns. Properly executed oversized photography establishes authority, demonstrates product build quality, and ensures the item fits the consumer's expectations and physical space.

Examples

Common oversized products include sectional sofas, hard-shell travel luggage, treadmills, bicycles, large kitchen appliances, and floor lamps.

How to Apply

1. **Logistics Planning:** Coordinate with JU Productions’ global hubs (Singapore, USA, or China) to ensure freight delivery and unboxing protocols are met. 2. **Set Design:** Opt for a 'Room Set' or a large-scale cyclorama to provide the product with enough 'breathing room' in the frame. 3. **Multi-Angle Capture:** Ensure 360-degree views or detail shots are taken to show textures and assembly points that aren't visible in wide shots.

Common Mistakes

Using a lens that is too wide, which causes 'barrel distortion' and makes the product look warped; failing to account for the assembly time of large items in the production schedule; and inadequate lighting that leaves large shadows under the base of heavy items.

Pro Tip

When shooting oversized items, always include a 'scale reference'—such as a human model or a common household object—to help customers intuitively understand the product's true dimensions and reduce return rates.
